THE SCOPE OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING
Nuclear engineering is the branch of the engineering profession concerned with the practical application of nuclear energy, that is, the energy which, in one form or another, originate in and emanetes from the atomic nucleus.
As the reader is doubtless aware, the first major effort to utilize nuclear energy was begun early in World War II and culminated in the development of the bombs which were exploded over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and which presumably were instrumental in the sudden termination of that war. The development of nuclear weapons has continued since the end of World War II, both in the United States and abroad and, needless to say, the appearance of these weapons in the arsenals of the wolrd has had a profound effect on international relations.
